im starting this thread to help new players out to give them ideas on templates to fit there play style.

Ill start of with the most universal mage type and that is the necro mage.

The Necro Mage...
These are often referred to as a spawning character because they have 2 skills that synergies perfectly together. Wraith form gives allows you to leech mana from your target with both spells and weapons giving and wither is the best aoe dps spells in the game. What this means for u is endless mana if ur hitting multiple targets.

There powers reach much farther then that tho. They are good for all aspects of pvm since they can spam spells endlessly in wraith form. The are also extremely potent in pvp do to the nature of there spells.

The basic starting necro mage template is...
100 magery
100 eval
100 necro
100 spiritspeak
100 wrestling or anatomy
100 resist
100 med
100str/25dex/100int

the question about elf or human is one ull have to answer for urself. Elves allow you to reach max spell damage increase since one sdi item is elf only, they also have a larger mana pool.

From this point on u can go in seemingly endless directions, based on ur suit, account age and power scroll level.

Some of my favorite are:

dart necro -
100 magery +15 from tome
120 eval
100 necro +5 from necro talisman
110 spiritspeak +5 from necro talisman
120 resist
120 wrestling
50 ninja gives u the ability to use dp darts for pvp use.
if u dont care for ninja you could change wrestling to gm anatomy, use crystalline ring and spell woven britches and have 100 meditation.

Spellweaving Necro

120 magery
120 eval
120 resist
120 necro
120 spiritspeak
120 spellweaving
use staff of the magi or swords of pros for the 1 fc mage weapon. Spellweaving adds a lot to a spawning character, ill just get into this a lil bit. Gift of renewal is a good dot heal when u have a level 5 or 6 crystal. Gift of life will allow u to rez after u die and summon fey/natures furies help keep the spawn off you.

an ult to this template needs a lotta + skill items, sdi and 4/6 casting to be effective. So factions is a must.
75 magery (+11 from a modded scrappers +20 from crystalline ring) thats 106 which is no fail for level 7 spells
115 eval
110 resist
80 necro (+20 from midnight bracers +5 from necro talisman)
110 spiritspeak(+10 from necro talisman)
115 spellweaving
105 anatomy


Another popular pvp necro template is the Deathstrike necro
You could go either wrestling or find a sc channel no pen -20 mage weapon and counter the pen with crystalline ring.

71 Magery (+15 from tome and +20 from crystalline ring) 106
119 eval
110 resist
80 necro (+20 from bracers + 5 from necro talisman)
100 spiritspeak (10 from necro talisman)
120 ninja
120 wrestling

and the mage weapon route
120 magery
120 eval
110 resist
80 necro(105 with the above items)
110 spiritspeak(120 with the above items)
120 ninja
60 spellweaving or med

dont feel confined to these templates as these are just suggestions.
